Respondent: Jack Gray, District: 5 Date: 8/25/07
- 1. In your opinion, what are the top three problems for the county?
- A. Ground water
- B. Development
- C. Low teacher’s salaries
- 2. Why are these problems?
- A. It is obvious that we must have clean pollution-free ground water for healthy living, for potential development of industry and the very sustenance of live in our County.
- B. We must certainly have plans for development, not allowing the rights of some to be trampled by others in unrestricted sprawl.
- C. We are losing so very many good veteran teachers to our neighboring state.
- 3. What would you do about them if elected to the Board of Supervisors?
- A. Keep expert geologic information on the location of the aquifers and not allow any facility to be built to pollute, diminish, or adversely affect them.
- B. Plan carefully, hoping to maintain our rural character, yet with progressive development, all the while maintaining the rights of private property owners.
- C. Work to raise the education funding from the State, looking to alternative funding locally.
- 4. What do you think about water in the county – Storm water, Ground water, seawater, bay water?
- Ground water has been addressed above. The storm water problem can be helped greatly by, quite simply, cleaning the drainage ditches, as we used to do. Sea water and Bay waters must be kept pollution-free, yet we do not need over-restrictive policies that would restrict our watermen, our tourism industry, our fishermen, and our farmers.
- 5. What do you think of the recent (June, 2007) report on the Accomack County Public Safety System?
- I must respectfully decline to answer this on at this time. I do not believe that I am well informed enough on this. Uninformed opinion, in my view, is foolish, and even dangerous. I will address this later in the campaign.
