WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE
AT THE COMP PLAN HEARING

• The County cannot move forward on any of the very important ordinances, like the Bay Act on the sea side or storm water runoff regulations until it has adopted a Comprehensive Plan.

• While it may seem that there are enough votes to pass the Plan, a show of popular support is absolutely necessary since the real estate lobby and its supporters are waiting in the wings to pounce on any ordinances that would in any way inhibit them from destroying this County for their own profit.

• The more people that speak in favor of the plan, the easier and faster will be the political job of passing ordinances that support it.

• Speaking at the meeting is needed. Do not feel you have to fill a 3 minute spiel. At minimum, just stand up and say, “I represent the ___ members of my household and we urge you to pass this Plan and get on with the ordinances.”

• This Plan is long overdue. And as a result Accomack County is the low hanging fruit for developers, relative to counties north and south.

• The Plan is NOT anti-growth or anti-development. It is about putting the right kind of growth in the most cost-effective and safest places.
